Kafeero Foundation is now part of the Creative Africa Union (CAU) project, bringing its legacy of digital education, entrepreneurship development and youth empowerment into a broader African creative and technology ecosystem. Between 2017 and 2020, Kafeero Foundation reports that its digital skills initiatives, associated with Google Digital Skills for Africa, reached more than 320,000 young people across Africa. This experience provides a foundation for CAU's ambitions in digital literacy, artificial intelligence, creative technology and entrepreneurship.

Between 2017 and 2020, digital transformation was creating new possibilities for young Africans seeking employment, entrepreneurship and greater participation in the modern economy.

As more businesses adopted online tools, the demand for digital knowledge continued to grow.

During this period, Kafeero Foundation participated in digital skills development activities associated with the Google Digital Skills for Africa initiative, with a reported reach of more than 320,000 young people across Africa.

This milestone reflects the ambition to make practical digital education accessible to young people from diverse backgrounds and communities.

Bringing Digital Skills Closer to Young People

For many young Africans, access to technology education can be a major step toward greater economic independence.

Digital skills training can introduce learners to the tools and knowledge needed to communicate professionally, market products, find opportunities online and develop digital businesses.

The initiative focused on the importance of equipping young people with practical capabilities relevant to an increasingly connected economy.

Areas of learning associated with digital skills development include online marketing, digital entrepreneurship, internet-based business tools, online communication and the use of technology to support professional growth.

A Reported Reach of More Than 320,000 Youth

According to the programme impact information supplied by Kafeero Foundation, more than 320,000 young people were reached through digital skills training activities during the 2017–2020 period.

The reported scale illustrates the potential of coordinated educational outreach to expand access to digital knowledge.

Beyond participation numbers, the wider significance of digital education lies in helping learners recognise how technology can be applied to their individual goals.

For aspiring entrepreneurs, digital tools can help businesses communicate with customers, reach wider markets and manage their operations.

For creative professionals, digital literacy can strengthen their ability to showcase work, build an online presence and access new audiences.

For students and job seekers, these capabilities can provide a foundation for continued learning and professional development.

Building on the Legacy Through CAU

The experience of large-scale digital skills training provides a foundation for CAU's educational ambitions.

As technology evolves, the next stage of digital empowerment increasingly includes artificial intelligence, automation, digital content production and entrepreneurship.

CAU aims to connect foundational digital literacy with more advanced opportunities in creative technology and innovation.

The goal is to support a progression from learning how to use digital tools to understanding how to build products, services and sustainable businesses using technology.

This reflects a broader vision of African youth as active participants in shaping the digital economy.

A Continuing Commitment to Digital Opportunity

The period from 2017 to 2020 represents an important chapter in the story of digital skills development.

As CAU builds its educational ecosystem, the lessons of accessibility, practical training and community outreach remain central.

The next challenge is to connect these foundations with emerging technologies and new economic opportunities.

Digital empowerment is not simply about learning technology. It is about giving young people the knowledge, confidence and opportunities to participate in shaping their future.

Creative Africa Union brings together experience in creative skills development, digital education, entrepreneurship and emerging technologies to expand opportunities for Africa’s next generation of creators and innovators.
