Student Safety & Safeguarding

Your safety. Your wellbeing. Our commitment.

At Creative Arts University, we are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student can learn, create and thrive — on campus and online.

This page sets out our framework commitments. Specific procedures, named contacts and facilities are published on this page only after verification and approval by the university administration.

Campus Safety & Security

We are building Creative Arts University as a place where students can learn, rehearse, exhibit and perform with confidence. Campus safety shapes how our grounds, studios and residences are designed: clear signage, well-lit walkways, controlled access to practical work areas and clear evacuation routes in every building.

Detailed security arrangements — staffing, access controls and incident procedures — are being finalised and will be published on this page once they are approved by the university administration.

Student Health & Wellbeing

Creative work asks a great deal of the people who make it. We take a whole-student view: wellbeing support sits alongside academic mentoring, and every student is known by name to the staff who teach them.

Our wellbeing framework covers physical health, mental health, rest and work balance, and safe practice in studios, workshops and performance spaces. Named services and referral pathways will be listed here once they are confirmed and approved.

Safeguarding & Protection

Every member of university staff and every visiting professional shares responsibility for the safety of our students. Our safeguarding framework sets out how concerns are recognised, recorded and escalated, and how decisions are made in the best interests of the student.

Safeguarding is never the responsibility of students themselves: no student will ever be asked to manage their own protection alone. The named safeguarding structure and reporting line will be published here after administrative approval.

Digital Learning & Online Safety

CAU students create, publish and collaborate online as part of their studies. Our online safety framework covers respectful conduct in digital classrooms, protection of personal information, safe use of AI tools, and awareness of online harms including fraud, impersonation and exploitation.

Students keep ownership of their work and their data. We publish plainly what we store, why we store it and who can see it — the same principles set out in our Privacy Policy.

Reporting Concerns & Seeking Support

If something feels wrong — for you or for someone else — tell us. Concerns can be raised with any member of staff, and no concern is too small. We listen first, record carefully and act in line with our safeguarding framework.

A confidential reporting channel and its response commitments will be published on this page once approved by the university administration. In the meantime, concerns can be raised through any CAU staff member or through the contact options on this page.

Emergency Assistance & Contact Information

In a life-threatening emergency, call the national emergency services first (999 or 112 in Uganda), then inform a member of university staff so we can support you and respond.

University-specific emergency contacts and any on-campus assistance arrangements will be published here only after they are verified and approved. Questions in the meantime can be sent to privacy@creativeartsuniversity.com.

Student Code of Conduct & Community Responsibilities

Safety is a shared responsibility. Our code of conduct asks every member of the CAU community to treat people and property with respect, to work safely in studios and shared spaces, to protect confidentiality when concerns are raised, and to look out for one another.

The full code of conduct is reviewed with students at induction and is available on request. It will be published on this page once approved.

Parent & Guardian Information

Families entrust us with the people they love, and we take that trust seriously. Parents and guardians are welcome to raise questions at any point — before enrolment, during studies and after graduation.

We communicate with families about matters that affect student safety and wellbeing, while respecting the privacy and independence of adult students. Family information sessions will be announced as the university develops.
